Denmark’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix takes place this evening, another Super-Saturday! With a lineup that moves between pop, moodier tracks, and throwback sounds, there is plenty of variety on offer. Here is Lucas West's personal ranking ahead of the final.
Sissal – 'Infinity'
Søren Torpegaard – 'Før Vi GÃ¥r Hjem'
Lucas West: "I really like this song a lot! The fact that it is entirely in Danish makes it even more special. It is exactly what I expect from a strong entry: different rhythms, peaks, and moods all within one song. Just when you think you understand where the song is going, it shifts into another melodic part and brings a new feeling. I think he has a real chance of winning, and it would be very well deserved."
Sander Sanchez – 'Two Spirits'
Lucas West: "Towards the end of the song, there is an instrumental moment that, for me, is the best part. It adds something extra and helps the song stand out instead of feeling like just another pop track. Overall, I do like it, it’s catchy and enjoyable."
Ericka Jane – 'Death of Me'
Lucas West: "This song is very catchy and gives me strong Kylie Minogue vibes. It’s very pop, which I think a lot of people will enjoy, myself included. At times, though, I feel that the rhythm rushes some of the words, as if they don’t fully match the melody."
Lasse Skriver – 'Roaring Heart'
Lucas West: "This is a very chilling song, probably the best way to describe it. Do I see it as a contest song? Not really. Still, it creates a strong mood and atmosphere."
Mykur – 'Touch My Love and Die'
Lucas West: "I think this is the kind of song you either like or you don’t. Personally, I’m not a big fan. It takes a long time to start, begins very quietly, and doesn’t really build, which makes it feel quite flat to me. Similar to what I mentioned with Ericka’s song, but even more so here, the lyrics don’t always feel melodic or well matched to the music. That said, one thing I do appreciate is the mysterious atmosphere the song creates."
Late Runner – 'Can U Feel It?'
Lucas West: "A trip back to the early 2000s? It’s always nice when a song can take you to another time. The melody is cute, and the lyrics are as well. It’s a pleasant, light song, and that’s fine."
Emil Otto – 'Copenhagen Noir'
