Bulgaria is set to return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2026, ending a three-year absence from the event. The confirmation came via the official Eurovision Instagram account and was later reiterated by the national broadcaster Bulgarian National Television (BNT).
The country last participated in 2022, when Intelligent Music Project performed 'Intention'. Now, BNT has announced its intention to once again bring Bulgarian music and culture to an international audience through the Eurovision stage.
BNT’s Director General Emil Koshlyukov said the decision reflects the broadcaster’s mission to promote national creativity abroad:
“Eurovision is a stage where cultures meet and stories are shared. BNT supports talented artists, and we are happy to once again provide a Bulgarian performer the opportunity to represent our country before a multi-million audience.”
Eurovision’s Executive Supervisor Martin Green welcomed the announcement, describing Bulgaria’s return as “proof that music continues to unite nations and showcase the contest’s lasting popularity.”
Preparations are already underway in Sofia for the selection process that will determine who represents Bulgaria in Vienna 2026, with further details about the format expected in the coming months.
Bulgaria made its Eurovision debut in 2005 and has competed 14 times. The country’s best result came in 2017, when Kristian Kostov finished second with 'Beautiful Mess', marking a milestone in Bulgaria’s Eurovision history.
