Tickets for Finland’s national selection sold out shortly after going on sale, while the seven competing acts are set to be revealed in January. The 2027 edition will take place on 20 February in Tampere.
Finland’s Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) continues to attract growing interest, with tickets for the 2027 edition selling out in record time. The announcement comes as broadcaster Yle confirms that 481 songs were submitted for consideration, with seven entries being selected to compete.
Tickets went on sale today, with both the live televised show and the afternoon dress rehearsal selling out almost immediately. Only a limited number of individual tickets remain available for the event, which will take place on 20 February at Tampere’s Nokia Arena.
The venue will host the main competition, featuring seven performances alongside opening and interval acts, as well as pre-parties and after-parties across three floors, continuing until 02:30 local time. The afternoon dress rehearsal will also offer audiences the opportunity to experience the show in advance, including the international juries awarding their points.
The growing demand reflects UMK’s increasing popularity both in Finland and internationally. In 2026, almost 20,000 people attended the competition in Tampere, with visitors travelling from across Finland and 26 different countries. The television broadcast reached 2.5 million viewers, making UMK the third most-watched programme of the year in Finland.
For the 2027 edition, Yle received a total of 481 submissions, a figure close to the record set in 2026. The seven competing songs were chosen by a professional jury of music industry experts, alongside five public juries representing a diverse range of backgrounds.
The selected artists will be announced during a live broadcast on Yle TV1 and Yle Areena on 13 January at 20:00 local time. Their songs and accompanying music videos will then be released individually on weekdays between 14 and 22 January.
Tapio Hakanen, chair of the professional UMK jury and managing editor of Yle Music, has offered some insight into the musical diversity of the upcoming competition. The selection will feature an internationally minded band, a dance-oriented duo, a dramatic and cinematic song, a contemporary anthem with distorted guitars, a powerful dance track showcasing a new side of an artist, and a composition featuring a kantele melody that builds to epic proportions.
Throughout the 2020s, UMK has developed into one of the most closely followed national selections in the Eurovision community and an increasingly significant platform for Finnish music. Its competing artists regularly achieve success in national charts, while several entries have gone on to become popular radio and streaming hits.
