Interview with Tina Džankić: "When you believe in yourself, anything is possible”

Tina Džankić is returning to the Montesong stage in 2025, one year after making a strong impression with her debut participation. With a seventh-place finish and her first-ever music award, last year marked an important turning point in her career, the one that gave her confidence and visibility within Montenegro.

This year, she competes with 'Shadows', a song that came into her life almost by coincidence but quickly felt meant to be. Blending emotional depth with pop and electronic elements, the track reflects universal experiences such as love, heartbreak and inner struggles, while also marking a clear artistic evolution from her previous entry.

Supported by her family and driven by the desire to enjoy every moment on stage, Tina approaches Montesong 2025 with a mix of joy and belief. While having fun remains essential, she does not rule out the possibility of winning. Below, you can read our second interview with the artist, one year after our very first conversation with her at Hashtag Eurovision.

I think that this year I have good competition, but can win also.

Hello Tina. We remember our first interview with great affection, and it is a pleasure for us to speak with you again.

Márcia Santana: In our first interview, you said — and I quote — “I don’t think I have fans in Montenegro.” After your participation in Montesong 2024, do you feel you managed to gain more fans than you initially thought, and that your music reached more people? What memories do you take from last year’s contest?
Tina Džankić: I think people know me in Montenegro, but I'm not a star maybe 🙂 But yes, they recognise me and I think it's beautiful. My memories from last Montesong are great, 'cause of my first ever award, and positive energy behind the scenes.

MS: How did the opportunity to take part in Montesong 2025 come about?
TD: Coincidence. My friend knows a friend... and they talked about music, and my friend asked me if I'm interested to hear some songs... the rest is history 🙂 'Shadows' found me. ♥️

MS: Your family plays a very important role in your life. How did they react when they found out you would be competing again this year?
TD: I think every family needs to be supportive in kids’ choices, so of course, they said, go Tina, this song is your ticket to Eurovision.

MS: Last year, you told me that your composers had said that “your next song would be a ballad.” Judging only by the title of your song, 'Shadows', it definitely gives ballad vibes — but it isn’t one. What is the song about, and what kind of feeling do you hope people will have when they listen to it?
TD: You're right, I need a ballad, but Shadows has that vibe, with some elements of electronic music and good pop. So I'm satisfied that we have everything here. I hope people will recognise the story we all have in life — love, breakups, depressions… call it like whatever you want, but deep thoughts when you're alone with your own fights. And to recognise true emotion.

MS: How was the creative process of the song?
TD: From summer till now, Shadows had some changes, which is normal. It's written in English, and my idea was to do a part in Montenegrin, so they all agreed and here we are.

MS: What would you say are the main differences between 'Nova' and 'Shadows'?
TD: They're totally different. Style, rhythm, emotion… and I can't give a comparison for any of those two songs. That's the point of music: to find and enjoy different styles, energies, genres.

MS: You have always said that having fun is what matters most to you. Last year, you achieved a very respectable 7th place out of 16 songs, which is quite impressive. Do you feel that with this song you could win, or achieve an even better result? Is that one of your goals, or — as last year — does having fun remain your main objective?
TD: Having fun is always a good way, because music is fun and joy, and you must enjoy it. When you're having fun and you believe in yourself, anything is possible. I think this year I have good competition, but can win also. 🫣

MS: Imagine you win Montesong. How do you envision the contest in May?
TD: I can imagine that, and my performance is like I'm already in Vienna. 💪

MS:To wrap things up, we would like to play a game with you, where you have to choose one of your fellow Montesong 2025 contestants for each of the following questions. Ready?
TD: Yes

  • Who is always sleepy? Đurđa
  • Who tells the most jokes? Luka
  • Who is always late to rehearsals? Đurđa
  • Who is the most emotional? Me
  • Who is the most impatient? Luka
  • Who is the calmest? Hera
  • Who is the most vain? Baryak
  • Who is the biggest perfectionist? Luka
  • Who is the most responsible? Me
  • Who is the drama queen/king? Krstinja

MS: Tina, thank you so much once again for this interview. It is, and always will be, a pleasure to speak with you. What message would you like to leave for the readers/followers of Hashtag Eurovision? And for your fans? (YES, BECAUSE THEY DO EXIST!) 🤩

TD: Enjoy in every second of my performance on 21st of Dec, because the world needs to hear me! Love you! ♥️♥️♥️
