Musicians, songwriters, and producers from Finland and abroad are encouraged to take part in Finland’s biggest music competition. The UMK 2026 final is scheduled to take place on 28 February 2026 at the iconic Nokia Arena in Tampere, which has become the home of spectacular UMK shows in recent years.
In its official press release, YLE describes UMK as a key platform for Finnish music:
“UMK – The Contest for New Music – is Yle’s open song contest for all musicians and music makers in Finland and abroad. Now’s the perfect time to read through the rules and start polishing your entry!”
The competition has gained international attention in recent years. In 2023, Käärijä became a global sensation; in 2024, Windows95man took the stage by storm; and in 2025, Europe came together with Erika Vikman’s iconic 'Ich Komme'.
UMK has served as Finland’s official Eurovision selection format since 2012. With each edition growing in scale and popularity, the show now sells out in hours. As YLE puts it:
“Could you be the next artist to leave your mark in Finnish and European music history? If so, mark your calendar and get your song ready!”
Artists are encouraged to review the official UMK 2026 rules carefully and ensure all materials are ready by the August submission window.
